Today, Wednesday, 19 Syrian families arrived from Lebanon via the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing, as part of the voluntary return programs implemented in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, amid the continued movement of Syrians returning through the border crossings since the beginning of the year.
The crossing administration provided all the necessary facilities to facilitate entry procedures and help families reach their various destinations within the country safely, according to what the Syrian Al-Ikhbariya channel reported.
This continued increase in the pace of voluntary returns during the year 2026 comes as an extension of previous indicators. Last August, the General Authority of Ports and Customs announced the return of more than 43,000 citizens through the same port since the beginning of the year, in parallel with ongoing efforts to provide basic services to returnees.
The Jdeidet Yabous crossing is considered one of the most vital land ports linking Lebanon and Syria, and is witnessing an active movement of voluntary returns in light of continuous coordination between local authorities and international organizations concerned with refugee affairs.
In the same context, on August 10, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa received the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Barham Salih, and his accompanying delegation. Ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and support efforts aimed at securing the safe and voluntary return of refugees were discussed.
Field efforts continue to ensure the provision of appropriate service and logistical conditions to facilitate the movement of returnees from the border crossings to their areas of original residence, in parallel with continuing efforts to address the file of Syrians residing in Lebanon in accordance with voluntary return frameworks.
