The dispute between Barcelona and Real Madrid over the “Negrira case” moved to the judicial track, as the court set the date of next November 25 as the date for holding a reconciliation session between the Catalan club’s management and the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, according to what was reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.
This step comes based on a request submitted by Barcelona on June 12, which is considered a preliminary legal procedure that precedes the filing of a criminal complaint on charges of defamation in accordance with Article 205 of the Spanish Penal Code. Through this measure, the Catalan club seeks to force Perez to retract the statements he made on May 12, in which he accused Barcelona of benefiting from a corrupt arbitration system, linking this to depriving Real Madrid of winning titles in the Spanish League.
In the same context, Barcelona called on the Spanish League, the Spanish Football Federation, and the Referees Committee to take official measures against Perez’s statements, considering that they cause serious harm to his reputation and the standing of the competition. On the other hand, Real Madrid had resorted to the European Football Association (UEFA) demanding that disciplinary measures be taken against its traditional rival against the backdrop of the same case.
The next step will be decided based on the outcomes of the expected reconciliation session. If the two parties fail to reach an agreement, Barcelona intends to move forward with filing a formal criminal complaint against the president of the Royal Club.
