The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, received in his office the new French ambassador to Lebanon, Patrick Durrell, in a meeting held in the presence of the political advisor to the embassy, Raphaëlle Samama, and MP Nada Boustani on the “movement’s” side.
At the beginning of the meeting, Representative Bassil congratulated Ambassador Dorrell on assuming his new diplomatic duties in Beirut, wishing him good luck and success, stressing the depth and strength of the historical relations between Lebanon and France.
The two sides discussed the general situation in the country, and the discussion focused on the repercussions of the war and the ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, as well as the overall current political and security developments at the region level.
The meeting also touched on the catastrophic repercussions of the ongoing wars on the Lebanese and regional arenas, as those gathered stressed the necessity of urgent action to stop and end attacks, and to respect the sovereignty of states, in a way that contributes to consolidating regional stability and allowing the way to settle crises through political and diplomatic means.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the urgent importance of approving the necessary reform legislation, as an essential step to reviving the work of state institutions and regularizing their constitutional and institutional work.
