The “Free Patriotic Movement” has raised its level of organizational readiness in preparation for the upcoming elections, most notably the parliamentary elections, amid its leadership’s emphasis on the necessity of not making party work conditional on the assumption that elections will be held exclusively in the year 2028, but rather preparing to run in them at any possible time.
This approach came during an organizational retreat held by the movement for the district bodies in the “Liqa” center in Rabwa, which was devoted to assessing the reality of regional work, reviewing the performance of the previous stage, and formulating an action plan for the next stage, in addition to strengthening coordination mechanisms between the districts and the central committees.
The retreat activities were opened with a speech by the coordinator of the district follow-up committee, lawyer Gilbert Salama, in which he reviewed the reality of the bodies, the field challenges, and the proposed work mechanisms, followed by the secretary of the movement, Jihad Salama, who addressed the role of secretaries in the districts and the importance of strengthening coordination between the regions and the central bodies.
For his part, the Vice President of the Free Patriotic Movement for Administrative Affairs, Ghassan Al-Khoury, stressed the centrality of the organizational presence in about 800 towns, pointing out that the historical connection of large segments of the Lebanese to the line of former President Michel Aoun imposes on the movement a double responsibility to develop its party structure in the regions. Al-Khoury explained that the previous stage witnessed progress in reorganizing districts and sectors, including some gaps that require addressing, stressing that organizational work represents a sustainable path that is not linked only to electoral dates.
In his most prominent message about the parliamentary election, Al-Khoury stressed that the movement is dealing with this issue in isolation from the idea of the inevitable postponement to the year 2028, stressing the need for the bodies to remain in a state of complete readiness “whether the election is in the year 2028 or tomorrow.”
The retreat included a series of interactive workshops that brought together district officials from the central committees and sectors, where discussions focused on identifying priorities and organizational needs and ways to develop coordination mechanisms for the next stage.
The retreat concluded with a closed meeting that brought together the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, with the participating cadres, where general political developments and national entitlements were discussed, in addition to assessing the reality of party work and charting the role of the districts in the next stage.
