The United States has raised the security alert level for its citizens in the Middle East, warning of the possibility of an “unexpected escalation” amid an extremely complex security environment, and calling for the utmost caution.
On Sunday, the US State Department issued an official warning via its website and social media platforms, urging American citizens currently in the region to exercise extreme caution and caution.
The ministry indicated the involvement of the Iran-backed Houthis in hostile actions targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including targeting civilian airports, warning that the situation entailed risks of “rapid escalation.”
On the travel front, the US State Department called on nationals outside the Middle East to “seriously reconsider” their travel plans to or across the region, urging travelers to follow up on updates issued by airports and airlines in real time.
In a broader context, the Ministry pointed out that American diplomatic facilities had previously been subjected to targeting operations, including locations outside the borders of the Middle East.
Washington also warned of the possibility of Iran or groups loyal to it targeting other American interests abroad, as well as sites, companies, and institutions associated with the United States and its citizens around the world.
This updated warning comes in light of escalating regional tensions and growing fears of the expanding confrontation and its direct repercussions on air traffic and passenger safety.
