Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi renewed Baghdad’s commitment to preventing the use of Iraqi lands as an arena for settling others’ conflicts or as a launching pad for attacks on neighboring countries, stressing that strengthening state authority and the independence of Iraqi decision-making constitute a priority in confronting the security challenges that the country and the region are going through.
During his sponsorship of the graduation ceremony for the students of the Police College, the High Officers Course, and the students of the Higher Institute for Security and Administrative Development, Al-Zaidi said that the strength of the security services constitutes a deterrent in the face of any attempts targeting the security and stability of Iraq, stressing that attempts to tamper with the country’s security will be defeated by the unity of the people and their standing by the government and the armed forces.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister renewed his government’s commitment to working on the independence of Iraq’s decision-making and strengthening the state’s authority, in addition to reforming the economy and combating corruption.
Addressing the graduates, Al-Zaidi said: “We are committed to supporting and developing security institutions, and we rely on their professionalism in building trust between citizens and state institutions, and we await your contribution in raising the status of the institutions in which you will work to serve the Iraqis.”
He added that the role of the security services is not limited to protecting security, but also contributes to consolidating confidence in the political system, supporting the path of development and the economy, and enhancing Iraq’s ability to confront crises.
Addressing the graduates, he continued: “Arming yourself with awareness, knowledge, and advanced technology enhances confronting the threats and attempts of those who tamper with the security of the nation.”
Al-Zaidi’s positions come at a time when Baghdad faces increasing challenges related to controlling security and preventing the use of Iraqi lands to carry out attacks outside the borders, in parallel with measures and investigations recently taken by the government after it was proven that attacks targeting Saudi Arabia were launched from a location within Maysan Governorate.
In the wake of these developments, the Iraqi government stressed its refusal to turn the country’s territory into a launching pad for any aggression against neighboring countries, stressing its work to strengthen state control and hold those responsible accountable for any violations that threaten Iraq’s security or its regional relations.
