The Chicago Fire and Inter Miami match in the American Football League witnessed a heated argument between Rodrigo De Paul and Robert Lewandowski, two of the most prominent names who moved from the Spanish League to American stadiums.
According to El País newspaper, the contact occurred in the final minutes of the match, which was held at Soldier Field in Chicago, and ended in a 1-1 draw.
The incident began after Inter Miami player Frye fell as a result of contact with Lewandowski, before he got up and pushed the Polish striker and then walked away. Lewandowski tried to follow him to ask for an explanation of what happened, but De Paul intervened to defend his colleague, and entered into a verbal confrontation with the former Barcelona striker.
During the argument, De Paul said to Lewandowski: “Who are you, idiot? You won the Copa America and the World Cup. And you?”, referring to his titles with the Argentina national team.
The clip quickly became a popular item on social media, especially since the confrontation brought together two players with a long history in Europe. De Paul with Atletico Madrid, and Lewandowski with Barcelona, before moving to the American League.
Lewandowski scored Chicago’s goal in the match, raising his tally to 7 goals in his new experience in MLS, while Casemiro scored Inter Miami’s goal after a pass from Lionel Messi, who has 3 assists.
With this draw, Chicago Fire continued the series of draws for the fourth match in a row, while Inter Miami achieved only one win in the last 7 matches this season.
