Today, Sunday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the arrest of a cell that it said was “armed and linked to the royal movement,” and includes 8 members in Fars Province, south of the country, in parallel with the announcement of the seizure of shipments of weapons and ammunition in West Azerbaijan Province, northwest of Iran.
Fars Agency quoted a statement from the Revolutionary Guards that the cell members were linked to anti-government groups, accusing them of planning and providing weapons with the aim of causing deaths during possible protests.
The statement added that the detainees participated, according to the Revolutionary Guards, in the unrest that Iran witnessed during December 2025 and January 2026, and were accused of carrying out or planning actions that included attacking sites with Molotov cocktails, burning tires, closing roads, and sabotaging public property.
The statement did not reveal the identities of the detainees or details of the weapons that it said were confiscated, nor was there an account from the detainees or their lawyers regarding the accusations against them.
In a separate development, the Revolutionary Guards in West Azerbaijan Province announced the seizure of shipments of weapons and ammunition during security operations in the region.
Iranian media had previously reported the seizure of shipments containing machine guns, ammunition, and hand grenades, in operations that the authorities said were aimed at preventing weapons from reaching armed groups.
This comes in light of the Iranian security services tightening their measures in a number of provinces, especially the border areas, amid official accusations of various groups seeking to carry out armed operations or destabilize internal security in light of the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States.
