A horrific crime that took place inside a school in the town of Gosen-neut-Zeitau, eastern Germany, entered a new judicial stage, after the Public Prosecution in Frankfurt, today, Friday, requested the arrest of a 19-year-old young man on charges of double murder, following an incident that claimed the lives of an 18-year-old student and a 30-year-old educator who tried to intervene to save her.

According to data announced by the German authorities, the crime occurred on Thursday afternoon on the campus of the Dosimos School, where emergency teams found the two victims with fatal injuries, while the police were able to arrest the suspect at the scene of the accident. Brandenburg police confirmed that investigations are not treating the incident as a random attack, but rather a crime linked to a personal relationship.

The Public Prosecution revealed that the killed student was the ex-girlfriend of the suspect, while the second victim was a teacher working at the site, and he intervened to help the young woman during the attack, before he was killed in turn. Circulating information indicates that a knife was used in the crime.

The prosecution accused the young man of committing two murders, noting that the initial facts included motives that it described as “despicable.” The suspect has not yet given his statements regarding the accusations against him, while the authorities confirmed that he was not previously known to have a criminal record.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the school’s vicinity witnessed a large deployment of police, ambulance and emergency teams, while the school campus was secured and evidence collection and field inspection operations began to reveal the full sequence of the crime.

In parallel with the criminal investigation, educational authorities moved to provide support to students and school staff, as a team specialized in psychological and emergency support was sent to the site. It was also decided that classes would not be held regularly at the primary school located within the same campus on Friday, while providing psychological care to the students and teachers affected by the incident.

Thursday evening witnessed more than 100 people gathering in front of the school to commemorate the two victims, amid an atmosphere of sadness and shock in the town.

The police and the Public Prosecution are continuing their investigations to determine all the circumstances and motives of the crime, while the authorities are still reticent to publish additional details in order to preserve the progress of the investigation.
