Driverless cars on the streets of an Arab city... Uber begins a new era of transportation!

Uber announced the availability of Baidu’s fully self-driving Apollo Go vehicles through its platform in Dubai, with New Horizons Luxury Transport Company operating the fleet of vehicles, in the first market in which the partnership between Uber and Baidu enters into force.

According to a press release, the launch in Dubai represents the first step in a strategic partnership spanning several years, which aims to make thousands of Apollo Go vehicles available through Uber’s global network.

Starting August 20, 2026, passengers who request rides via UberX or Uber Comfort in Dubai will be able to travel on board fully autonomous Apollo Go vehicles. Users can also increase their chances of being matched with these vehicles by selecting the “Autonomous Vehicle” category directly from the Uber app.

In its first phase, the service is available within specific areas of Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, with the operating area expanding in the future.

The service relies on the sixth generation Apollo Go RT6 vehicles, which are fully electric automated taxis, designed to operate without a driver, accommodate up to 3 passengers, and include more than 30 sensors to monitor the surrounding environment and process data in real time.

According to the statement, Apollo Go’s operations currently cover 28 cities around the world, and its autonomous vehicles have traveled more than 350 million kilometers, including more than 240 million kilometers in fully autonomous driving mode without a driver.

Uber confirmed that all self-driving vehicles, including Baidu’s Apollo Go vehicles, are required to adhere to the safety guidelines set by the company before operating them on its network.
