The Iranian news agency “IRNA” reported today, Saturday, that Iran has granted permission to a number of Iraqi oil tankers to cross the Strait of Hormuz, following repeated requests from Baghdad through various channels.
The agency indicated that obtaining special permission for Iraqi tankers was one of Baghdad’s main demands during the visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf to Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on Friday that Iraq intends to raise oil production to between 8 and 10 million barrels per day within 6 years.
He added that a ministerial committee was sent to Saudi Arabia to discuss increasing Iraq’s share in oil production within the framework of OPEC.
Al-Zaidi indicated that work is underway to export Iraqi oil via Baniyas in Syria and Aqaba in Jordan.
