MP Major General Jamil al-Sayyid commented on the Israeli raids that targeted Abu al-Duhur military airport in Idlib Governorate, linking the targeting to the Turkish role in Syria, and considering that Israel seeks to impose its military control over Syrian airspace.
Al-Sayed wrote through his account on the “X” platform that Israeli warplanes carried out 10 raids on Abu Al-Duhur military airport at dawn, passing through Lebanese airspace, which, according to what was reported, led to major material damage and the almost complete destruction of the airport, against the backdrop of information about the transfer of Turkish military equipment to it to install surveillance systems.
Al-Sayyed believed that the arrival of the new Syrian regime in Damascus with direct Turkish support prompted Israel, as he put it, to deal with Syria as a common arena of influence with Turkey, considering that it had moved the line of contact that existed in the Golan during the era of Bashar al-Assad to the south of the Syrian capital.
He added that, in his opinion, the dawn raids carry a message to Türkiye that Israel considers all Syrian airspace to be under its military control, despite Ankara’s membership in NATO.
Al-Sayyed pointed out that Israel did not have, as he put it, “revenge” with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, who is supported by US President Donald Trump, pointing out that Al-Sharaa had no resistance against Israel during the era of Bashar al-Assad or after.
Based on this, Al-Sayyed wondered what the Lebanese state would say regarding what he described as “free surrender to Israel” under the pretext of the presence of resistance in southern Lebanon, considering that Israel does not need any pretext to attack whomever it wants and in the place it chooses.
