Fish farms in Lebanon … a damaged sector and the losses are great

Within many and repeated times, the Israeli Al -Alawd in the town of Naqura, by bombs, targeted the fishermen of fish at the beach there to capture the available “livelihood”.

The aim of these attacks is clear and unambiguous, which is to fear the fishermen and prevent them from being on the marine beach, especially at a point close to the border.
Several incidents highlighted the risks faced by fishermen in southern Lebanon, while there is another threat that affects fish and is associated with unjust fishing and the use of “dynamite”. This prompted the fishermen of fish in Al -Zahrani to call for a sit -in tomorrow, Sunday, in the port of Al -Zizi – Al -Sarafand, to stop the existing abuses.
The demands that the protesters hold are necessary, but the war that Lebanon faced late last year 2024 contributed to a large extent to hitting a vital sector in the level of fish wealth in Lebanon.
Actually, the so -called fish farms were one of the most affected by the war, as an evaluation related to the damage and losses of agriculture revealed that the events in Lebanon resulted in the damage of 14 partial fish farms partially, while 13 farms were completely destroyed in a number of provinces, including Nabatiyeh, Baalbek Hermel and others.
The data published during April 2025 revealed that what happened led to a decrease in “fish farming” from about 1100 tons to about 730 tons, indicating losses estimated at 370 tons of approximately 1 million dollars, not to mention direct losses of a value exceeding 500 thousand dollars.
The matter was also not limited to the injury of these farms, but also included the damage to fishing boats, as a number of them were destroyed in southern Lebanon, especially in Naqoura.
For your information, marine fishing stopped in Naqoura in particular during the recent war, which resulted in great losses in terms of fish extracted from the sea.
Since the danger still exists in the south due to Israeli strikes, the fishing sector and fish farms remain one of the most sectors that suffer while the ability to rise again needs great support for a good and strong return.
