Representative Jamil Al-Sayyed, via the “X” platform, criticized Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s statements regarding the Washington Agreement, considering that they contradict the text of Article 13 of the Framework Agreement.

Al-Sayyed said that Salam defended during a television interview that Lebanon had not given up its right to file complaints before international authorities regarding what he described as “Israel’s crimes against humanity,” asking: “Is this true?”

He pointed out that Article 13 of the agreement stipulates that “Israel and Lebanon are committed to taking good faith measures that demonstrate positive intentions, including stopping all hostile or negative actions in international political or legal forums,” considering that this text does not restrict the cessation of complaints to a period of time or to the condition of the success or failure of negotiations, but rather came “without restrictions or conditions.”

Al-Sayed wondered why Article 13 did not include a clear text stipulating that Lebanon refrain from submitting complaints during the negotiation period only, while reserving the right to return to them later.

He added that when the state negotiates international agreements, “one of its duties is to write clear texts, not to sell ambiguous texts in the negotiations and then accuse its people of misunderstanding,” and concluded by saying: “People understood it correctly, and you did it wrongly, and intentionally.”
