On Monday evening, the southern town of Dermamas witnessed a bloody security incident that resulted in the death of the mayor, Suhail Abu Jamra, and the injury of the town’s mayor, Nicholas Suleiman, while the security services began investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident and track down the shooter.
The National News Agency reported that a citizen opened fire on the mayor and the mayor, in circumstances that are still unclear.
The shooting seriously injured the mayor, Suhail Abu Jamra, who subsequently died from it, while Mukhtar Nicolas Suleiman was injured by a gunshot wound to the chest between the ribs.
Suleiman was immediately transferred to Marjayoun Governmental Hospital to receive treatment, where information indicated that his condition was stable.
Following the incident, the shooter fled to an unknown destination, while the security forces began their field procedures and tracked down the suspect, in conjunction with opening an investigation to determine the background of the incident, its circumstances, and the reasons that led to it.
The crime caused shock in Dermamas and the Marjayoun area, given that two official figures who hold municipal and discretionary responsibilities in the town were targeted, while awaiting what the security and judicial investigations will reveal in the coming hours.
