In the context of the ongoing discussions on the general amnesty law, Prime Minister Najib Mikati received MP Ahmed Al-Khair, where the details of the proposal proposed in the House of Representatives were discussed.

The meeting discussed a set of points that are supposed to be included in the draft law, with the aim of strengthening it nationally, morally and legally, to avoid any interpretations, provided that these proposals are presented during the discussions of the parliamentary committees.

Mikati stressed that “a general amnesty has become a necessity at this stage,” considering that it constitutes an entry point to address the repercussions of a painful stage in the country’s history, in addition to addressing the crisis of prison overcrowding with hundreds of detainees, whether on remand for investigation or those whose detention period has exceeded the intended sentence.
