The Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, stressed his country’s determination to “establish complete peace and security in the region,” noting that “the other party always obstructs the achievement of the results of these measures.”
Qalibaf explained that “establishing a comprehensive ceasefire in all conflict areas is one of the provisions of the initial ceasefire agreement with Washington.”
He also reported that he stressed to the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, that Lebanon is “an integral part of the comprehensive ceasefire.”
These statements by Qalibaf come in the midst of intense political movements that followed the announcement of a temporary truce between Lebanon and Israel, coinciding with what is being reported about broader understandings between Tehran and Washington related to complex regional issues.
Bringing Lebanon within the scope of the comprehensive ceasefire is considered a sign of the connection of the Lebanese situation to a broader regional negotiating path, while awaiting what matters will turn out in the next stage.
