After his meeting with the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, at Baabda Palace, Representative Ibrahim Kanaan clarified what he called the “red lines” of the current stage, stressing that the most important thing is to maintain internal stability and enhance Lebanon’s active role on the international scene.
Kanaan pointed out that the alternative to uniting around the state is “clear and dangerous,” considering that dispersal only leads to “collective suicide and the end of Lebanon.” He stressed the need to strengthen internal unity to face challenges.
He stressed that “there is no war for the sake of war or to serve foreign agendas, and there is no peace at any price that compromises sovereignty and territory,” explaining that war and peace are two tools to achieve one goal: protecting Lebanon, its borders, stability, and the safety of its people.
He also pointed out that the war, in light of the current international and regional circumstances, “does not serve Lebanon’s interests,” calling for a true understanding of the reality on the ground.
Kanaan revealed that the ceasefire represents the beginning of a new phase, stressing that the issue is “under preparation in preparation for a solution or settlement that will not be far away,” without going into additional details.
He added that Lebanon is part of the world and is affected by economic conditions like other countries, pointing out that ending the current stage requires making the necessary reforms to restore the confidence of the Lebanese and the international community, which is what is being worked on, expressing his hope that the circumstances will allow it to be achieved.
Kanaan’s statements come in light of the escalation of security tension on the southern front, in addition to internal political movements and international communications to support the path of calm. Lebanon is witnessing a wide debate about current priorities, between maintaining stability and avoiding division, and seeking a solution that preserves sovereignty and lays the foundations for a reform phase that restores confidence in the economy and institutions.
In this context, the messages issued by Baabda reflect an attempt to confirm the unity of the official position in facing the challenges, while emphasizing that protecting Lebanon is the primary goal of any political or security decision in the coming period.
