The Minister of Agriculture opens the file of unsafe meat amid anticipated parliamentary and governmental action

MP Farid Al-Bustani made a call to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during which he discussed the crisis of poisoning cases resulting from eating unsafe meat, and the file of regulating slaughterhouses and tightening control over them to ensure food safety and protect the health of citizens.

Al-Bustani explained that the Prime Minister informed him of holding a ministerial meeting next Monday to discuss these two files and study the necessary measures and procedures to address them radically.

In a related context, Al-Bustani expressed the readiness of the National Economy, Industry, Trade and Planning Parliamentary Committee, in coordination with the relevant parliamentary committees and the Consumer Protection Directorate, to submit draft laws and legislation necessary to fill legal gaps and strengthen the oversight and accountability system.

He stressed that protecting the health and safety of citizens is a top priority that cannot be compromised, considering that preserving it is a national trust that is at the forefront of responsibilities.

This parliamentary and governmental move comes in light of escalating societal concerns about meat safety and the absence of effective oversight mechanisms for slaughterhouses, which places the issue on the Cabinet’s table early next week to contain the crisis and prevent its recurrence.
