The distinguished Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan warned of the seriousness of the prevailing conditions in Lebanon and the region, considering that the country is facing a very delicate stage that requires protecting the Lebanese formula and the pact partnership. The President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, called for taking “a national position and policies that prevent the explosion of Lebanon.”
In a statement, Qabalan pointed out that “Lebanon and the region are on a powder keg” in light of an interconnected and complex reality, stressing that protecting the supplies of the Lebanese formula constitutes a “necessity of existence,” while the charter foundation is considered one of the most important pillars of the country’s survival.
Regarding internal affairs, Qablan touched on the situation of the Shiite sect, saying that “some want to be saved from the origin of the sect’s existence,” stressing that it has made huge sacrifices and endured destruction, displacement, and the costs of steadfastness and national defense. He stressed that the sect “will not accept its slaughter or continue implementing policies to get rid of it,” adding that “Lebanon does not exist without the presence of the Shiite sect and what is necessary for its pact partnership,” and that “the time of exclusivity is over.”
The Mufti directed sharp criticism at the authority, accusing it of complicity in what the sect and its villages are being exposed to. He said: “We are still patient with the authority that we see, unfortunately, colluding with our blood, our remains, and the destruction of our villages,” calling on it to get out of what he described as “the American Zionist extermination game.”
In a related context, Kabalan described Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri as “Lebanon’s safety valve, its national memory, and its political and charter necessity,” warning against the consequences of “burning Lebanon by continuing to play with the fire of genocide and internal suffocation.”
Qabalan concluded his statement by emphasizing that his position “is not for intimidation but to save the country,” describing what is happening on the ground as “extremely dangerous,” and reiterating his demand for President Joseph Aoun to take a national position and policies that prevent the explosion of Lebanon, warning by saying: “Otherwise, what is happening is tantamount to an intentional massacre to undermine the very existence of the Shiite community.”
