Member of the “Development and Liberation” bloc, MP Qabalan Qabalan, re-shed light on the issue of the displaced and reconstruction, strongly criticizing what he described as the failure of state institutions to address the repercussions of the war, and demanding the adoption of a comprehensive national plan to confront the urgent service and social crises.
Representative Qabalan’s position came during his sponsorship of the opening of the “Sabil al-Kafeel” project in the town of Sohmor, where he appreciated the vital role played by local, international and regional associations, along with the entities and individuals who continued to provide support and assistance to the people throughout the war.
Qabalan sharply criticized the performance of state institutions in a number of vital files, questioning the absence of practical plans to deal with families who lost their homes, and addressing the crisis of damaged schools in the south and Western Bekaa, pointing out that large numbers of displaced people were forced to search for places of residence outside shelter centers amid clear mismanagement of some service files.
He called on the state to bear its full responsibilities towards all Lebanese regions and components, regardless of any geographical, sectarian or political considerations, stressing that the south is an organic part of Lebanon, and that its stability is a basic condition for the stability of the entire country, stressing the necessity of adopting a comprehensive national approach in the face of the repercussions.
In the context of his talk about the extent of the losses, Qabalan recalled the sacrifices of the town of Sohmor, which offered more than 100 martyrs, and witnessed the destruction of hundreds of homes and the displacement of its people, considering that its suffering matches the tragedy of the other villages of the south and the affected areas that are still waiting for their files to be addressed within a unified national plan and an alternative to partial solutions.
