This field step comes after the reopening of the doors of the solid household waste treatment plant and its resumption of receiving waste trucks, as a result of the close follow-up and continuous pressure exerted by the president and members of the Municipal Council of the city of Sidon, and the mayors of the Sidon-Zahrani Union, in coordination with the relevant judicial, ministerial and security authorities.
The municipality has developed an emergency plan to deal with the large quantities of waste that accumulated during the period when the factory stopped receiving trucks, and collection and transportation operations from the city streets will be intensified as a top priority.
The Municipality of Sidon confirmed to the people and public opinion that “reopening the plant and removing the accumulated waste from the streets constitutes an emergency and necessary measure to protect public health and the environment,” stressing that it will continue to follow up this file at all levels, and will not stop at addressing the repercussions of the current crisis, but rather will work in cooperation with the concerned authorities to reach a radical and sustainable solution to the waste file, ensuring the continuity of its proper and regular collection and treatment, preventing the recurrence of the crises witnessed by the city and the towns of the Union, and preserving the health and safety of citizens.
