Iran announced the toll of the American attack that targeted Lark Island in the Strait of Hormuz, confirming the death of two people and the injury of others, at a time when Washington stressed that the operation targeted what it described as an imminent threat to navigation in the Strait.
IRNA quoted the governor of Qeshm Island, Hussein Amir Timuri, as saying that the attack that occurred late on Sunday evening resulted in the death of two people and the injury of others receiving treatment, without specifying whether they were military or civilian.
On the other hand, an American official told Reuters that American forces targeted two Iranian missile launchers on Lark Island, after observing Revolutionary Guard forces preparing, according to the American account, to launch missiles equipped with sea mines towards the Strait of Hormuz.
The official confirmed that the US army did not target Kharg Island during the night raids.
In a later development, Iranian television reported hearing new explosions on Lark Island, without clarifying their causes or whether they were related to the previous strike.
For its part, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected the Revolutionary Guards’ description of the operation as an “aggressive act,” stressing that it carried out a “limited and precise” measure against Iranian units that were preparing, according to Washington, to plant sea mines in the strait.
Tasnim Agency reported that the attack was carried out by drones, while the Revolutionary Guard said that the bombing resulted in deaths and injuries among soldiers and civilians.
