The Department of Media and Public Relations at the General Directorate of Lebanese Civil Defense issued a statement saying: “A traffic accident occurred in the Amchit area – Jbeil District, resulting in two deaths and seven people being injured.”
The statement added: “Members of the Lebanese Civil Defense and the Lebanese Red Cross worked to treat the wounded and transport them to hospitals, as well as the two bodies.”
The accident brings to the forefront the issue of traffic safety on Lebanese roads, in light of the recurrence of accidents that result in casualties and injuries, especially on the main roads that witness heavy traffic.
The risks of accidents multiply with excessive speed, non-compliance with traffic rules, in addition to factors related to the condition of some roads, lighting and congestion, which requires tightening prevention and traffic control measures and raising the level of awareness among drivers.
Civil Defense and Red Cross teams play an essential role in responding to traffic accidents, through rescue and ambulance operations and transporting the injured to hospitals, amid repeated calls for drivers to adhere to set speeds and safety rules in order to avoid more accidents and victims.
