Encroachments under the bulldozer... The Litani is moving in Sir al-Gharbiyah

The National Litani River Authority began removing encroachments and new occupations on public river property in the western town of Sir, as part of a campaign to protect the river’s course and prevent the expansion of illegal use of public property.

The removal work included the existing encroachments in the “Al-Diyaa Rest House”, in addition to other new occupancies within the scope of the river properties, at a time when the authority confirmed that it would not allow the establishment of new facilities or the expansion of the existing encroachments on the banks of the Litani.

The Authority warned that any new violation will be met with legal measures being taken against the trespasser, including prosecution before the competent judicial authorities and a request to record the trespass sign on the real estate newspaper of the property in question.

It also stressed that the removal of violations will be done at the expense of their owners, with the violator bearing the full expenses and responsibilities resulting from illegal occupancy.

The Authority confirmed that it will continue detection, monitoring, and removal of encroachments in Sir al-Gharbiyah and other areas of the lower basin of the Litani River, stressing that the procedures will be applied “without exception or discrimination,” with the aim of protecting river public property, the river course, and the public interest.
