UNESCO: Rehabilitation of Mar Mikhael Station and the revival of the Great Teatro in Beirut



UNESCO General Director of Paris, Audrey Azoulay, arrived this afternoon at Rafic Hariri International Airport – Beirut, where she was received by Minister of Culture Dr. Ghassan Salama.
Azoulay is scheduled to put at 10:15 tomorrow morning, the foundation stone for the rehabilitation of the St. Mikhael – Railway Station, to be a cultural landmark, in the presence of the Ministers of Culture Ghassan Salama, public works and transportation Fayez Rasamani, and a representative of the Italian embassy. Azoulay and Minister Salama will also be at 11:00 before noon by visiting the Great Teatro site on the exhibition street in the center of Beirut, to announce the launch of a campaign International to revitalize it, in partnership with the Emirate of Sharjah, the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Beirut. The two initiatives come within the framework of international efforts to revive Beirut’s cultural identity and strengthen its urban heritage, after years of neglect and damage to it.
