Tony Issa wrote in “Al -Gomhoria”: The controversial American president is considering establishing the “Trump Economic Zone” along the Lebanese strip adjacent to the border with Israel. In his opinion, this will automatically guarantee the displacement of “Hezbollah” and securing the northern borders of Israel. The social and economic environment there will be all involved in peace. Many job opportunities will be available, and economic prosperity will be available in the southern regions, which tempts the residents who are practically the “party” environment, and greatly limits their dependence on it. This proposal is integrated with a parallel proposal presented by Trump on Gaza, months ago, as he wants to transform the sector as a tourist investment paradise that dumping people in a superior prosperity forgotten by political and security conflict with Israel. Certainly, Hezbollah realizes that the initiative constitutes a direct threat to it. Therefore, he launched his violent campaign against the Lebanese government, calling for its betrayal and intimidation. He even declared his willingness to fight in defense of his weapon and influence, even in the face of the forces of the Lebanese interior.
From an economic and development perspective, the philosophy of prosperity may be able to face the philosophy of war. People in the end choose what provides them with a better life. And when there are job opportunities, young people need to be in the militias or dependence on external financing. Likewise, the parents who invest in teaching their children and establishing their own projects, they have what they lose at the outbreak of the war. The economic temptation may be an effective tool to counter ideological mobilization. Individuals who live in stability reject the discourse of intolerance and hatred. But the philosophy of prosperity may not be sufficient on its own. There are other factors that play a decisive role, such as ideological identity. As for “Hizbullah”, the fighting is not just a tactical choice, but rather is part of his ideological identity, and “Al -Maqaqa” is a sacred, divine duty.
It is clear that the Americans want to generalize this economic vision in the entire Middle East. They are more likely to hope to create multiple “Trump’s economic areas” on all their borders with Israel. However, they must extinguish the fires to reach this goal. Trump has previously launched the idea of exploiting the Gaza’s good climate and its geographical location to turn it on a prosperous tourist spot. Building hotels, resorts, and major economic projects that attract investments, provide huge job opportunities, and change the dynamics of the region radically, so peace becomes an interest for all, and the role of “Ham” ends.
Likewise, in southern Lebanon, the area adjacent to the Israeli border, from the sands of Naqura Beach to Snow of a Hermon, is already of a picturesque nature. The idea posed by the American President, that is, the “Trump Economic Zone”, is taking advantage of this natural resource to transfer the region from a field of conflict to a tourist and commercial center. This is required to ensure the temptation of the “Hezbollah” environment with the positives of luxury and peace.
Of course, in Gaza, you will fight “Ham” until the end, rejecting any initiative that ends its role, as well as “Hezbollah” in Lebanon, and has started his campaign with enthusiasm. For him, any economic initiative from the United States or Israel is an attempt to buy people’s loyalty and bribery to stay away from it.
Trump’s vision, to southern Lebanese, is a practical application of “economic realism” with which the entire Middle East approaches.
