The poultry sector in Lebanon is at risk .. Here is what was revealed

The head of the Lebanese Poultry Syndicate, William Peter, stressed that “the demand for poultry products in the local market is still good,” noting that the prices of poultry in the Lebanese market are acceptable.

Peter complained that the sector is facing great and unequal competition in Lebanon, pointing to “the entry of large quantities of Turkish chicken breasts to Lebanon illegally”, describing this matter very bad because of its negative repercussions on national production. And Boutros pointed out that “the differences are great between the specifications of Lebanese and foreign chicken products in terms of quality”, revealed that “chicken factories that enter Lebanon from some Arab countries Exempt from customs duties, although they are made mainly of imported and non -Arabic chicken, while Lebanese chicken factories are subject to customs. “Boutros considered that” imposing fees on these imported products is a must, to maintain thirty -six thousand jobs and protect food security in Lebanon “, pointing out that this unfair competition constitutes a threat to the continuation of the sector and threatens one of the basic pillars of food security in Lebanon.
