The International Monetary Fund delegation to Beirut

With the approaching date of the new visit to the Fund’s delegation, economic observers believe that Lebanon has finally tried to show some seriousness in progressing the reform line, as the House of Representatives approved a number of laws that are joints in the financial road map.
But despite this movement, the questions remain legitimate: Is what has been accomplished enough to change the IMF’s view of the Lebanese scene? Or are the reforms still limited to meeting the minimum conditions required to enter a comprehensive rescue program?
In fact, many experts unanimously agree that what happened so far is still within the framework of “partial steps”, which does not constitute a qualitative shift in the economic track.
On the other hand, the IMF is also closely monitoring the performance of the central bank, in light of the changes that occurred in the rule.
The visit of the Fund’s delegation will not only be to assess papers and data, but will be an occasion to test the maturity of the Lebanese political will in adhering to clear and undisputed conditions. The fund has never hidden its dissatisfaction with the delay of Lebanese officials and their presentation of narrow interests on the requirements of economic rescue.
