The highest point in the east … Does Israel include Jabal Al -Sheikh?

Nader Hejaz – MTV
Israel continues its occupation of Jabal Al -Sheikh, which it controlled after the fall of the Syrian regime, and conveyed statements from the Israeli Ministry of Defense, days ago, that the Israeli army will not withdraw from Jabal Al -Sheikh.
On the height of 2814 meters, Israel has controlled the upper mountain in the Middle East, and chose to call it “the eyes of the nation”, because its height makes it a strategic place to put its primary strategic early warning system.
Israel means the control of Hermon, in which 3 countries meet, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, to control the most important source of water and the most important strategic observation point in the region, in addition to the religious dimension where Jabal Al -Sheikh was mentioned in Jewish religious texts more than 70 times, which gives it ideological importance among the Jews, as this religious direction is exploited to justify the expansion project to achieve “Greater Israel”.
The people of the surrounding villages from the Lebanese side, throughout the past months, have clearly seen the movement of Israeli soldiers. It is true that Lebanon did not have a fixed military point on the tops of the mountain over the past decades, but it is a partner in its ownership, and the Israeli tugge is a Lebanese land table there, especially through a road that was brought to and reaching areas overlooking the Syrian and Lebanese sides.
“The most distant Israeli military point is 25 km from Damascus,” this is the new field reality imposed by Israel in southern Syria, and the military expert, retired Brigadier General Khalil Al -Helou.
Al -Helou pointed out, through the MTV website, that Israel may carry out the operations of crushing in the Lebanese territories after the fall of the Syrian regime, but he stressed that “the points there cannot be remained by virtue of the geographical reality that needs great equipment.”
The Jabal al -Sheikh is completely in the Israeli grip, but will it remain forever as Israel wants?
Al -Helou answered: “There is no army in the world that settles at some point forever. Israel occupied Jabal Al -Sheikh after the collapse of Bashar al -Assad’s regime for security reasons according to its standards and data. The buffer zone between the Syrian and Israeli armies has also occupied since 1974, along with the influence in Daraa.”
He explained that “the issue of Jabal Al -Sheikh that the Israeli Minister of Defense spoke about, they consider it essential to security. But in the event that there is security arrangements with Syria, Damascus will put a return to the 1974 agreement, which means that Syria is adhering to a return to the Syrian point in Jabal Al -Sheikh. But in the present stage, as long as there is no pressure on Israel from capable parts, it will not withdraw from Jabal Al -Sheikh.”
Does this mean that Syria will only regain this strategic point by negotiation?
Al -Helou said: “The possibilities of the current Syrian army are slim, and not as the previous army, after Israel destroyed the heavy equipment owned by the army of Bashar al -Assad, within 10 days, after the regime collapsed, through 550 raids on factories, missiles, tanks, airports, and others. Therefore, the balance of power between Syria and Israel is non -existent in favor of the latter.
As for the question that arises, has Israel occupied this important site to abandon it later? Did you join him as you did in the Golan?
Al -Helou considered that “in the current stage until further notice, the Israeli army remains in Jabal Al -Sheikh, but this does not mean annexation as the Golan, and does not mean that it remains in it forever.”
He concluded by saying: “The negotiations are in full swing and go to a Syrian -Israeli security agreement on September 25.”
