The confusion over Tannourine water continues and health tests reveal the results

Al-Akhbar wrote: In a sudden decision, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday that it would stop distributing Tannourine water, and asked the distributing company to “withdraw its products from the markets within a maximum period of 3 days,” and prevented the supply of any new drinking water product to the markets before obtaining explicit approval from the Minister of Health.
According to the letter signed by Acting Minister of Health Nizar Hani, the decision came as a result of the samples withdrawn from the Lebanese markets not conforming to the specifications, due to the presence of the “Pseudomonas aeruginosa” bacteria in them, which was confirmed by the epidemiological surveillance team in the ministry.
This type of bacteria is one of the common types capable of spreading in drinking water, because it is able to settle in pipes and filter membranes used to refine water, in addition to its ability to form colonies inside water filling machines.
Unlike many types of bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to sterilization agents, such as chlorine and ozone gas, which makes its removal a major challenge for industrialists. On the other hand, medical sources do not refer to this type of bacteria as a major health threat except to patients, especially in hospitals. Its direct health effects are not similar to the effects of fecal bacteria, or “Ecoli,” which cause severe diarrhea.
At the market level, after the issuance of the decision yesterday, a state of loss prevailed, especially with the issuance of conflicting data denying the validity of the Ministry of Health’s statement.
To cast doubt on the Ministry of Health’s statement, Tannourine Company promoted the results of laboratory tests proving that the water was free of any bacterial contaminants and published them on WhatsApp groups, in addition to announcing the holding of an explanatory press conference today at the company’s headquarters.
Sources in the Ministry of Health explained to Al-Akhbar that the sound results promoted by Tannoureen are correct, but they are due to “other cooking or samples other than the contaminated samples.” She pointed out that the contamination of Tannourine water is not general, and does not include all bottles on the market, but the above does not mean at all that the water is safe, as there is a significant portion of the bottled bottles that are contaminated and must be withdrawn from the market at the company’s responsibility.
A report by “Lebanon 24” revealed the results of laboratory tests conducted by the Ministry of Public Health on samples taken from Tannourine water, which showed the presence of contamination in them.
