“Suspicious” messages reach the phones of the Lebanese … and this is required of you!

A number of Lebanese receive suspicious messages through the “Telegram” application, which comes from pre -preserved numbers within the contacts on the phones, adding a character of reliability to these fraudulent correspondence.

The messages include an electronic link attached to the phrase: “There are pictures of you on this site”, in an open attempt to lure the user to click, which opens the door to the possibility of stealing his personal data or penetrating his device.

In this context, electronic expert Elie Ghobash explained, in a statement to “Libanon Debayette”, that what is happening is just a “Vishing Campaign” campaign, and not a hacker for the telecommunications network as some might think.

“There is no professional work behind these messages, but there is an attempt to target users one by one,” Ghobash said.

He stressed that “messages only aim to mislead and steal information, and there is no actual technical or security breach,” adding: “The issue is ridiculous, and does not require panic, but some awareness and behavior responsible for users are required.”

Ghobash stressed the importance of digital awareness, considering that “the user’s awareness is the basis”, calling for not to interact with these messages under any circumstance, not to click on any unknown link, enter entry information, or publish personal data in any unreliable site.

He said: “We should not act with recklessness, nor click on any unknown link, nor to enter the entry information (Credentiaals) in suspicious sites, or share our personal data randomly. Only a little awareness is required.”

Ghobash concluded, reassuring: “The specialists are aware of what is going on and the topic is dealt with, and there is no need to worry.”
