Lahoud noted the measures that the Lebanese government has made to date to extend the state’s authority over its entire lands and limit weapons in its hands, in addition to the ongoing judicial and financial reforms, considering that these steps contribute to restoring the confidence of the international community in Lebanon. He stressed that the Lebanese army plays a fundamental role in enhancing security and stability, stressing its continuous endeavor within the US Congress to ensure the continued support of the army. The importance of renewing the mandate of the UNIFIL forces at this stage was also touched on supporting the Lebanese army to enhance its deployment in the south. In turn, the Prime Minister stressed the need for Israel to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and withdraw from the lands that are still occupying it, enabling the army to complete its spread in the south, stop its hostilities and release the prisoners, in preparation for the start of the path of reconstruction and recovery. He also affirmed that the Lebanese army is an army for all Lebanese, and that its support and providing it with the necessary capabilities constitute a basic pillar to enhance security and stability.
