Painter: Rehabilitation

The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamani, participated in setting the basis stone for the project to rehabilitate the St. Mikhael Train Station – Beirut, alongside the Minister of Culture Ghassan Salama, Director General of UNESCO, Mrs. Odri Azoulay, and the list of the Italian embassy, Mrs. Silvia Tossi.
And my painters gave a speech in which he said: “Let me start directing the highest expressions of thanks to UNESCO and the government of Italy, as it is your sincere partnership that made this event possible. Today we stand at the heart of the Mar Mikhael Station for trains, where the railway journey began in Lebanon in 1895. From here the first trains started towards Damascus, Hama and Aleppo, to link Lebanon to its neighbors and put it on the map of progress Regional.
These railways were not just iron and stones, but rather bridges between cities, people and economies. She carried ambition and innovation with her, and she remained engraved in our collective memory. ” But what matters today is that life has returned to this station, and with it the hope that this railway will return one day to reach our cities again.
Thanks to our firm support for our partners, today we set the foundation stone for the rehabilitation of Mar Mikhael Station. This project will not only memorize its historical buildings and trains, but will turn them into spaces for memory, culture and creativity, while keeping it ready for any future renaissance of the railway.
It is more than just a heritage restoration project. It is a resilience. The place that suffered for a long time, and the tragedy of the fourth of August, is emitting today to become a space for life, art, and society. Let this achievement be a source of inspiration for generations to learn, communicate and dream, in the hope that we will hear a new time to hear a train from here. ”(The National Agency)
