One decisive message from Berri

President Nabih Berri’s speech yesterday carried a basic and clear message, which is that the Amal movement stands with Hizbullah without any differentiation between the two parties, neither in the political position nor in strategic accounts.
Berri wanted to say that what the Shiites are exposed to in Lebanon, whether from the approaches to the outside or in the internal records, makes them one coherent class, and that any attempt to separate the movement of Amal and Hezbollah is not contained in the current stage. He realizes that any division on the Shiite scene will translate directly in negotiations with the outside, and a decline in the balance of power inside. Therefore, his speech came to close the door to all the bets that were built on the possibility of finding a decisive distance between him and Hizbul, and to confirm that the priority at this stage remains to protect the sect in the face of regional and international challenges. From a land point of view, the issue of differentiation from Hizbah is only on one base, which is to provide real guarantees to protect the Shiites. In this context, Berri suggested that Israel’s concrete concessions, and its explicit commitment to the ceasefire, may constitute an entrance to a serious discussion about the future of weapons and the possibility of formulating a new equation for it. However, what also alluded to it is that the absence of these guarantees means that the adherence to the weapon remains a strategic choice no less than what is expressed by Hizbullah. However, Berri was keen to keep the door of dialogue open, as his speech was not merely strictness, but also included references to calm and the possibility of searching for solutions through internal political channels. But at the same time, it does not seem that this door will lead to quick or settled results, especially in light of the hardening of positions and the contradictions between the interior and the outside. In this sense, it can be said that a land speech came to decide the location of the Amal movement in the current equation, and it confirms that it moves within one strategic line with Hizb. Hezbollah, but at the same time he did not close the way for any future solutions, but set clear conditions that make any negotiation related to transformations Great, starting from stopping the Israeli attacks and ending with a serious research in the form of weapons and its role. And between this and that, Berri’s speech remains a sign that the Lebanese scene is a candidate for more tension, even if the windows of the dialogue remain in place.
