Military spending is undermined health, education and job opportunities

UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres warned, on Tuesday, that global military spending is inflating at the expense of vital investments in the fields of health, education and job opportunities.

Guterres emphasized that the increase in military spending in this way does not necessarily mean achieving peace. The evidence is clear that the huge military spending often undermines peace by feeding arms races, deepening lack of confidence, and turning resources away from the true foundations of stability. And with military spending reaching a record level of $ 2.7 trillion dollars after a decade of expansion of armaments, the United Nations studied the impact of this on goals Sustainable development for the year 2030. The resulting report is scheduled to discuss “the security we need: re -balance of military spending for a sustainable and peaceful future”, during the annual meeting of world leaders in the General Assembly that begins on September 22.
