Malaysia offers assistance in rebuilding Gaza and maintaining its security
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced his country’s readiness to participate in UN peacekeeping forces in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Kuala Lumpur is ready to contribute to international efforts to establish security and stability in the region.
The Malaysian news agency, Bernama, quoted Ibrahim as saying that Malaysia is studying ways to support international initiatives aimed at bringing peace to Gaza, noting that he will make a phone call with the Egyptian authorities on Tuesday to discuss mechanisms for delivering humanitarian and medical aid through the Rafah crossing.
This Malaysian position comes after the summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement, with American, Egyptian and Qatari mediation.
The agreement ended a war that lasted nearly two years, leaving tens of thousands of civilian casualties and extensive destruction to the sector’s infrastructure. It stipulates a comprehensive ceasefire, and the start of implementation of a multi-stage peace plan that includes the release of prisoners, the return of displaced persons, and the launch of a comprehensive reconstruction process under international supervision.
In a related context, US President Donald Trump called on Middle Eastern countries to unite their efforts to end conflicts and achieve comprehensive peace in the region, considering that Gaza forms part of a broader path to achieving regional stability.
