Libya and Russia .. 70 years of cooperation at an international conference for historical studies

The work of the seventh international conference for historical studies was launched under the title “Libyan -Russian Relations: Seventy years of Cooperation”, with the wide participation of political, academic and diplomatic figures, in the city of Tripoli.
The opening was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Libya, Haider Aghanin, the vice -president of the Russian House in Tunisia, the director of the Russian National Library, as well as members of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State, and a number of former Libyan ambassadors in Moscow. The conference, through workshops and in -depth sessions, focused on prominent stations in the history of Libyan -Russian relations, highlighting the political, economic, cultural, educational and media dimensions. The sessions also deal with the geopolitical importance of the two countries in the contemporary world, the historical foundations that established this relationship, in addition to the phenomenon of international polarization, old and modern. The conference also discusses the Russian role in establishing stability in Libya and the development of diplomatic relations and its future prospects. On the economic level, the participants discuss the opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, industry, agriculture and foreign trade, and its repercussions on political relations. In the cultural field, the conference highlights the joint legacy between the two peoples, the role of the Russian archive, the writings of the orientalist and the Russian traveler on Libya, along with the Libyan cultural scene and its impact on the Russian elites. It also discusses the educational and media dimension, including the impact of educational scholarships and the role of the media in Enhancing a positive and mutual image, while emphasizing the importance of research centers and benefiting from Russian documents and manuscripts related to the history of Libya. According to the organizing committee, the conference aims to highlight the historical foundations of bilateral relations, provide a contemporary vision of its political and strategic paths, and build bridges of cultural and scientific cooperation, in order to promote international stability and peace.
