Lebanon participates in the conference to sustain maritime transport in Jeddah



With an official invitation from the Saudi Ministry of Transport, the Director General of Land and Machine Transport, Dr. Ahmed Tamer, participated in the activities of the first day of the Maritime Transport Conference held in the city of Jeddah, which was opened by the Saudi Minister of Transport, with the wide participation of ministers and officials of transport in various countries, in addition to representatives of the International Maritime Organization.
A statement of the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport indicated that Tamer met on the sidelines of the conference, Chairman of the General Authority of Saudi Ports, Eng. Suleiman Al -Mazrou, in a meeting devoted to discussing cooperation frameworks in the field of maritime transport between Lebanon and the Kingdom. Tamer presented during the meeting several basic files, the most prominent of which are:
– A request for Saudi assistance in all areas related to ship inspection within the understandings of the Riyadh and Mediterranean notes.
– Acknowledging the mutual marine certificates between the two countries.
– Benefiting from the Kingdom’s experience in dealing with dangerous materials. The statement pointed out that the Saudi side expressed all the support, support and willful will to help Lebanon in various fields of maritime transport, and it was agreed to coordinate positions in all issues raised before the International Maritime Organization, especially what is related to the Marbol Agreement and the proposed amendments to carbon emissions, where Lebanon joined the working paper submitted by the Kingdom in this regard. The margin of the conference is a series of meetings with the directors of maritime transport in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, and Turkey, with the aim of enhancing regional cooperation and exchanging experiences in various aspects of maritime transport, in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of marine operations and supporting safety and sustainability in the region.
