Lebanon is awaiting the Syrian -Israeli negotiations

Salah Salam wrote in “Major General”: Lebanon is awaiting with great attention to the expected meeting in London between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, amid talk about the possibility of reaching new security understandings between Damascus and Tel Aviv. Although the meeting reflects international interest in reopening the channels of dialogue in the region, the Lebanese concerns are multiplied, as any agreement defines security features on the Syrian -Israeli front must leave its mark on the Lebanese interior.

Lebanon, which for decades, for decades, is feared that it will turn back into a “mailbox” to exchange messages and pressure. If the negotiations succeed in stabilizing a security understanding that guarantees the calm of the Golan, then Israel will consider that any escalation or activity.
In addition, there are those who fear that Israel will seek to swap its security in the Golan with guarantees related to the southern Lebanese borders, and possibly arrangements related to the Syrian presence on the Lebanese border. This raises fears of deals at the expense of Lebanese sovereignty, so that Lebanon becomes an additional negotiating paper between Damascus and Tel Aviv, while the Lebanese are drowned in their Byzantine discussions on the amendments to the election law and the accumulated financial crises, and the government’s attempts to extend the state’s authority over all Lebanese territory.
