1- Lebanon wins the Dubai International Basketball Tournament

The Lebanese Al Riyadi team won the Dubai International Basketball Championship for the second time in a row, confirming its leadership in this championship, having won this title 9 times. The Al Riyadi team ended its match against the Philippine Strong Group team with a victory (77-74), in a match that was exciting and complicated until the last seconds. When the score was tied (74-74), Al Riyadi team player Ismail Sama’a scored the winning basket (3 points) in the last second of the match, so Al Riyadi won and was crowned champion of the Dubai Championship. The final match was held on December 28, 2024 at the Al Nasr Sports Club Hall in Dubai.

2- Lebanon won the title of the first edition of the Beirut Basketball Cup

The Lebanese men’s basketball team won the Betarabia Cup Championship, which was organized by Global Active Sports under the supervision of the Lebanese Basketball Federation, with the participation of four teams: Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, and Syria. The Iraqi team came in second place, Palestine came in third, and Syria came in fourth. This match was held on February 20, 2024 .

3- Lebanese school wins best product award 

The team of Rashaya Official High School won the Best Innovative Product Award for the year 2023-2024 in the schools category at the Product of the Year Awards ceremony held in Qatar in February 2024. During the ceremony, the team presented a product using electronic imaging and sensing technology to help people with visual special needs integrate socially. The students invented this product at school with the support and assistance of teachers and the high school principal.

– Lebanese Katerina Zgheib wins two golds and a silver in artistic gymnastics at the Continental Cup

Lebanese Katrina Zgheib, 11 years old, participated in the Continental Cup for Artistic Gymnastics for Girls, organized by the Qatar Gymnastics Federation, and won two gold medals and a silver medal. The tournament was held on February 23 and 24 in Qatar with the participation of 190 players.

5- Bronze medal for Sarah in Taekwondo !

Lebanese Sara Ibrahim won the bronze medal in the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship 2024. The championship competitions were held in the Emirates during the month of February , and 2,334 male and female players participated in it, representing 56 countries from different continents of the world.

– Miss Lebanon Yasmina Zaytoun won the title of first runner-up.

Yasmina’s victory came after she passed several successive stages in the competition. She was selected in the first stage from among 40 contestants to qualify for the semi-finals held in March 2024. Zaytoun stood on stage with 11 other contestants, then moved to the “Top 8” stage and then to the final “Top 4”, where she won the title of first runner-up for Miss World 2024, which was won by the Czech Kristina Peshkova.

7- Choosing the shawarma sandwich as one of the best sandwiches in the world

The Lebanese shawarma sandwich was ranked third in the world, in the classification of the best sandwiches in the world. Shawarma came in third place after the Turkish “Tombik Doner” sandwich, which was ranked second, and the Vietnamese “Ban Mi” which was ranked first. This classification was conducted by the famous travel guide Taste Atlas, which specializes in trying traditional foods, during the month of April 2024 .

8- Gold for Ray Bassil in the World Cup of Shooting

Olympic shooter Ray Bassil won the gold medal at the World Cup in trap shooting, which was held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku in May 2024. Bassil hit 114 out of 125 traps in the qualifiers. In the semi-finals, she scored 44 out of 50. Australian Bunny Smith came in second, and Italian Erika Sessa came in third. This competition is part of Bassil’s preparations for the Paris Olympics this summer. (It is worth noting that Ray Bassil participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics without winning.)

9- Lebanese champion Christopher Feghali achieves the fastest time in Formula 4 tests in Spain

15-year-old Christopher Feghali has reached the fastest speed in Formula 4: 225 km/h. Christopher Feghali achieved this record on the second day of the Formula 4 race held at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, Spain on May 28. Christopher confirms that achieving this feat required a lot of focus, training, and physical fitness. He also thanks his father, Abdo Feghali, the Lebanese rally champion, for his continuous financial and moral support.

10- Students of the Lebanese Conservatory are creative in Berlin!

13 teams of students from the Conservatory, from the Eastern and Western sections, won the 9th Rising Stars International Music Competition 2024, which was held in Berlin, Germany during November 2024. The Lebanese students won in the following competitions: piano, flute, darbuka, qanun, oud, classical guitar, and others. This competition provides musicians, singers, and musical groups with the opportunity to perform on international stages, giving them wider exposure in the world of music. It is attended by contestants of all ages, coming from all over the world, and is held every year.

11 – Two bronze medals for Lebanon in the Wushu World Championship!

A Lebanese team participated in the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships 2024, which was held in Brunei (a country in Southeast Asia) from September 22 to 30, 2024. Chris Wanis managed to win the bronze medal by coming in third place in the 42 kg category, while Rafiq Abu Haidar won a bronze medal in the 80 kg category. Wushu is a type of Chinese martial arts, which has now become a very popular sport practiced by a large number of people around the world.

12 – Arza, the first officially documented seal in Lebanese waters

Over the past four years, Terre Liban has collected photos of the seal in Amchit Cave and Raouche area and sent them to SAD-AFAG, a Turkish organization leading the field of protecting the Mediterranean monk seal and its habitat. The latter analyzed and studied the photos and found that the seal spotted on the Lebanese coast is unique to Lebanon and was not included in the international database. Therefore, the organization asked Terre Liban, its official partner, to name this seal to register it in the international database. More than a thousand Lebanese men and women participated in the voting process to give it a name. The result was announced on November 16, 2024, on the occasion of National Environment Day 2024.
