The French authorities have opened an investigation with “Apple” about the use of audio recordings collected by its digital assistant “Siri”, amid fears of violating the privacy of users.
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office said that the case was referred to the Cyber Crime Office, after a complaint submitted by the French Human Rights Association, which was based on previous contracting statements with “Apple” that he talked about reviewing sensitive records of users, including patients.
“Apple” confirmed that it does not maintain sound recordings except with the approval of the users, and that the data is used exclusively to improve the performance of “Siri”, noting that some records may be reviewed by sub -employees or subsidiaries for up to two years.
The investigation comes within a series of French moves to monitor major American technology companies against the backdrop of issues related to privacy, competition and digital taxes.
