Energy deals … an incentive to end the war in Ukraine

The United States and Russia discussed several energy deals on the sidelines of the recent talks to bring peace in Ukraine, with the aim of pushing the Kremlin to agree to end the war and urged Washington to reduce the sanctions imposed on Russia, according to Reuters news agency quoted informed sources.
These deals were launched as possible incentives that include the return of the American company “Exxon Mobil” to the “Sakhlin-1” oil and gas project in Russia, in addition to the possibility of Russia to buy American equipment to prepare liquefied natural gas projects, including the natural gas project in the Arctic subject to Western sanctions. Discussions took place during the visit of the American envoy Steve Witkev to Moscow, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. And its economic envoy Kirill Dimitrev, as the issues inside the White House were discussed with US President Donald Trump. The sources confirmed that these talks aim to create economic incentives for both parties in order to reach agreements that may help to stop the war, while Washington seeks to show tangible progress in peace negotiations, especially after the Alaska summit that witnessed these deals. A decree allows foreign investors, including “Exxon Mobil”, to restore their shares in the “Sakhlin-1” project, provided that they are supported to lift Western sanctions imposed on Russia, which reflects the continuation of both parties to find practical solutions to pressure the economic and political crisis related to the war in Ukraine.
