During August … Jumblatt fears two Israeli strikes

The Kuwaiti newspaper “Al -Anbaa” revealed a special meeting held at the headquarters of the Druze leader Walid Jumblatt in Clemenceau, the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Drian and the Grand Mufti of the regions, gathered in the presence of the head of the Lebanese Democratic Party, former deputy Talal Arslan, in a move described as a national -sectarian, highly sensitive nature.

According to the information, the participants in the meeting stressed the need to fortify the internal arena and avoid slipping towards sectarian confrontations, which are being tired by internal and external parties seeking to invest regional tensions on the Lebanese scene.

The meeting was offered an escalating security concerns in light of the continued Israeli aggression on Gaza and the tension based on the southern border. In this context, Jumblatt expressed a serious fear that Lebanon may be expressed to two Israeli strikes during the month of August, the first before the middle of the month, and the second after the expected renewal date for the “UNIFIL” forces at the end of the same month.

Jumblatt pointed out that these potential attacks may be linked to Israel’s attempt to reduce the effectiveness of “UNIFIL” in southern Lebanon, taking advantage of reducing the budget of the international force after the United States refrained from providing its financial share in its financing, which opens the door to new attempts to change the rules of engagement and impose new facts on the ground.
