Angry student demonstrations, rejecting high representatives’ housing allowances



Riot forces fired tear gas canisters at thousands of students who threw stones while trying to reach the parliament building in the Indonesian capital.
The demonstrators express their anger after recent reports that 580 members of the House Stones and bottles on the security forces, and they set fire under one of the bridges near the parliamentary complex surrounded by strict security measures. The authorities closed the roads leading to Parliament, including several fast roads, causing severe traffic jams inside the city. More than 1,200 security personnel have been published to secure the vicinity of Parliament. Instant reports of injuries were received in the confrontations of both sides. The demonstrators demand to cancel what they consider “generous suits” that deputies receive in addition to their salaries, as the housing allowance alone is about 20 times the minimum wage in the poor areas.
