Imagine that you open your phone to browse “Instagram” … so wait for you to watch “Titanic” with all its long details. Yes, this is not an exaggeration. Lebanon reserved its “respected” place at the bottom of the Internet speed list globally via mobile phones, and it is ranked 85 out of 103 countries according to the “Speedtest” classification. “Country of Rice” has become in the club of countries whose users are struggling with the download tape, from Nigeria to Laos, in a slow race that consumes the nerves of every citizen.

In this context, IT expert Farid Khalil revealed that “the Internet in Lebanon suffers from a long -term neglect of maintenance and development,” noting that the crisis has exacerbated the economic collapse.
“Since the outbreak of the crisis, no serious maintenance work has been carried out, and even before the modernization projects were limited, as attempts to modernize the ground cables began in a short period before the collapse. Whenever the subscriber moves away from the Central, the speed of the Internet is available to him.”
Khalil returned to the year 2014, when the “Ogero” organization was selling the E1 service at a speed of 2 MB to download and raise for 900 dollars, describing the price as “fictional”, which provided huge revenues for the state and private companies.
He added: “Between 2018 and 2019, the talk began seriously about developing the network by extending the Viberx cables, but the project was disrupted as a result of differences between companies and the Ministry of Communications about powers, after which it stops with the worsening of the economic crisis.”
Khalil pointed out that “the spread of illegal internet at less prices increased the complexity of the scene, while the major calamity remains that Lebanon depends in limit on the marine cables, without any alternative option across satellite such as the” Starlink “service, which was locally directed by objections against the violation of privacy, while the world is heading towards the space internet to overcome its crises.

In the end, it seems that the Internet in Lebanon is stuck in the past, while the world runs towards the future with the speed of light, the Lebanese citizen remains a victim of a flabby network that cuts his digital breath day after day.
