
Today, Friday, the UNIFIL forces issued a statement, commenting on the incident of the Israeli army, on Thursday, bombs near the peacekeeping forces that were operating alongside the Lebanese army to secure protection for civilian workers in the town of Maroun Al -Ras, where they were removing the rubble resulting from the destruction of homes due to the war.
The statement pointed out that “approximately 11:30 am, peacekeeping elements in two different sites heard a bomb explosion near an excavator about 500 meters from them. After moments, the first group watched a municipality that fell over them, followed by an explosion at a distance between 30 and 40 meters of them. After about 20 minutes, the second group monitored another prisoner that threw a bomb that exploded over 20 meters above Their heads. ”
The statement pointed out that “the UNIFIL forces had previously informed the Israeli army of these actions, and immediately demanded a ceasefire. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the works were later completed.”
UNIFIL stressed that “any attack on the peacekeeping forces or obstructing the tasks entrusted to them shows an underestimation of the safety and security of the UNIFIL soldiers and the Lebanese army, and the stability that they seek to establish in southern Lebanon. These actions also constitute a serious violation of Security Council Resolution 1701.”
She called on the “Israeli army to immediately stop any attacks against or near peace forces, as well as against Lebanese civilians and soldiers, and allow us to perform the tasks assigned to us without any obstruction.”
