UNICEF announced that its strategic partnership with the German government, which has been extending for more than a decade through the German Development Bank (KFW), continues to work to enable the youth of Lebanon through initiatives that help them move from learning to productivity, and gives them leadership and active participation in building a better future.
According to the statement, the “From Learning to Production” program contributed to providing thousands of Lebanese youth with practical and appropriate skills for the labor market, which brought them back to the feeling of ability, dignity and independence. 7,397 young men and women managed to achieve income and reach job opportunities despite the economic crisis. Ota Simon, head of the Development Cooperation Department at the German embassy in Beirut, said that investing in young people is an investment in the future of Lebanon, noting that Germany has provided through this partnership opportunities for thousands of young men and women during the past ten years. On his part, the UNICEF representative in Lebanon Markoluigi Corsi stressed that investing in youth “Not a luxury, but the essence of UNICEF’s vision,” stressing that the partnership with Germany enabled the organization to support Lebanese youth in a critical transitional stage between education and productivity. The partnership will continue to expand, not only by providing skills and income, but by providing spaces for direct expression with decision makers and the private sector, making young people active contributors to formulating solutions for the future of Lebanon.
