Bishop Tarabiya: The restrictions on the media in Lebanon are a flagrant attack on freedom

The Maronite Diocese in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania issued a statement entitled “You know the truth, and the truth is liberating you”, in which the patron of the diocese, Bishop Antoine Charbel Taraby, expressed his “great condemnation of the threats and narrowing of the free media in Lebanon”, stopping at the prominent media, Walid Abboud, “the owner of the bold pen and the free voice that has long defended national values and sovereignty And independence. ”
Bishop Taraby said: “What we witnessed from the length and threat against Professor Abboud is a flagrant attack on freedom of expression, and reveals a serious decline in public discourse, fueled by the forces of darkness and intellectual terrorism, in a desperate attempt to silence the free word and silence the mouths. To ensure stability and civil peace, these practices constitute a direct challenge to the path of building the state and require a firm position on the relevant authorities. In addition to Walid Abboud and the free media, and rejecting these intimidating methods that are not related to the Lebanese values, but rather offended the image of the homeland that we want a beacon of freedom and dignity.
