In the government companies, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received the residing representative of the International Monetary Fund in Lebanon, Frederico Lima, at the head of a delegation from the fund.

During the meeting, the fund mission presented its initial results related to the salary crisis and retirement systems in the public sector, in light of the meetings held during the past week with the ministries of financial, administrative development, national defense, interior and municipalities, economics, health, education, and the Public Sector Reform Committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Mitri.
The meeting touched on “the repercussions of the economic crisis on employees and retirees, the financial space available for spending on the public job, and the capabilities to correct wages and salaries within possible financial controls.”
Salam stressed that “any treatment must be based on scientific standards that can be implemented, in a manner that preserves the rights of workers and retirees and takes into account the capabilities of public finances,” noting that “improving salaries contributes to moving the economic cycle and promoting social stability.”
He also pointed out that “this trend is consistent with what was stated in the government’s ministerial statement in terms of studying public sector salaries and fairness of workers, and working on a balanced reformist budget.”
The mission is scheduled to complete its work during the coming period, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, with Beirut to visit it next October.
A meeting to address problems that Beirut head suffers from
Salam chaired a meeting in the Saraya, in the presence of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Brigadier General Ahmed Al -Hajjar, Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Raed Abdullah, Commander of the Beirut Police, Brigadier General Imad Al -Jamal, and the head of the Information Division, Brigadier Mahmoud Cyprus, along with a delegation from the American University in Beirut headed by the President of the University, Dr. Fadlu Khoury.
During the meeting, the university’s proposals were presented to address some of the problems that the Ras Beirut region suffers from, foremost of which is the traffic crisis, begging, and waste of waste on the sidewalks.
A series of fast and medium -term solutions was discussed that will improve the situation in the region.
It was decided to complete the meetings and form a joint committee between the university and those concerned to follow up the implementation of practical steps.
Minister of Finance
Salam also met this afternoon, in the Saraya, with financial ministers Yassin Jaber and economics, Dr. Amer Al -Bassat, and the ruler of the Lebanon Bank, Karim Saeed, to follow up on the work of the draft law on addressing the financial gap, in a manner that ensures the protection of the rights of depositors and the principles of the state.
